Bite-sized dental wisdom in under 2 minutes.
I posted a response on Facebook the other day about building SOPs.
Since then, I’ve had multiple dentists message me asking for mine.
“Can you just send me your manuals?”
Sure.
I can.
But here’s the truth:
If I send you my SOPs, it probably won’t change much.
They’ll sit in your Google Drive.
You’ll open them once. Maybe twice. Then life gets busy.
Because the value isn’t the document.
The value is building the document.
When you sit down and write an SOP yourself, three things happen:
1. You actually learn it.
You think through the steps. The order of how to do them. You see the holes of what’s missing or unclear.
2. You can teach it.
If you can’t explain it clearly, you don’t understand it. Writing it forces clarity.
3. You can fix it when it breaks.
And it will break. Every system does. But if you didn’t build it yourself, you won’t know where to fix it. And then you’ll just blame the team instead (been there, done that).
So that’s the difference.
Getting someone else’s SOP is like asking for their weight loss plan.
Sure, I can send you exactly what I eat.
But my goals might be different than yours. My schedule is different. My food preferences are different. My tolerance for cottage cheese and meatsticks or whatever else is different.
You can copy my meals for a week.
But the second you get hungry, travel, have a bad day, or stall out — you won’t know what to adjust.
Because you didn’t build the framework.
You just followed it.
And no one gets in shape by screenshotting someone else’s meal plan.
They get in shape by understanding why they’re eating what they’re eating — and learning how to adjust when it stops working.
Owning a practice is the same.
You don’t build skill by downloading a folder.
You build skill by struggling through the sh*tty first draft.
By writing it down and seeing how messy it actually is.
That process is the work.
And honestly? That’s why most people avoid it.
It’s easier to ask for the manual than to build one.
But manuals don’t build practices.
Owners do.
So yes — I’ll send you my SOPs.
Just know they’re not the shortcut.
The shortcut is doing it yourself.
